Our Thoughts on Black Lives Matter.
Since the murder of George Floyd, we have seen humanity unite and raise their voices in the war against brutality and injustice towards Black people. People have been crying for change in the streets, donating funds towards organizations, signing petitions and particularly using Social Media as a vehicle to impart wisdom and educate those around us. This period has demonstrated the strength of community and what we all can achieve when we speak with unity and in one voice. Former President Barack Obama has even highlighted how we can further bring change.
However, an anti-racist society is not going to happen in a day or two. As the activism may become less visible over time in mass, it is still our responsibility to continue to be ethical, to spread awareness and to speak out against racism and situations where injustice occurs.
We encourage you to begin with reflection. Injustices are engrained into our society and our psyches, so be open to learn, listen and grow. This is something we are actively engaging in as well. We have years and years of subconscious biases to unlearn, and knowledge to fill. We would like to help. So, here are some resources that have helped us, and we hope they help you too. Also, if you ever want to chat, we'd love to as well. Send us a message on Facebook or Instagram at any time.
This is a great video that we often share with friends who would like to engage more in discussions and broaden their awareness.
If you prefer to read, here is a list of 10 Books to Help You Educate Yourself About Anti-Racism. The list includes the book written by Dr. DiAngelo in the video above.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Thank you for playing a role in building an anti-racist society. Stay proactive, and keep spreading love.
xx, OMG.
